Privacy Policy

Common Reader is a local-first reader. The app does not upload your books, excerpts, notes, or reading history to the developer's servers.

Data Stored Locally

To provide reading, library, excerpts, notes, bookmarks, reading progress, reading statistics, search, and settings features, Common Reader stores necessary data on your device. This may include book files or file locations, book information, covers, reading positions, highlights, bookmarks, notes, ratings, reviews, reading time, import records, app settings, and connection information you enter for AI features.

Sensitive credentials are stored through operating-system secure storage whenever possible. General settings may be stored in the app data directory. You can remove related data by uninstalling the app, clearing app data, disconnecting sync services, or deleting content in the app.

Cloud Sync

Cloud sync is enabled and configured by you. After it is enabled, Common Reader writes the data required for sync to the storage service you choose. Synced content may include book files, book information, reading progress, reading statistics (such as local reading dates, reading time, estimated reading volume, and session counts), bookmarks, highlights, notes, sync state, and error information. The developer does not relay or centrally store this sync data through developer-owned servers.

Third-party storage services process your data according to their own privacy policies.

AI Features

AI features are configured and used by you. Only when you use AI features does the app send the content needed to complete the request to the model service you choose. This content may include your questions, selected text, book excerpts, notes, highlights, reading preferences, or local material used to build context.

How a model service stores, uses, or trains on these requests depends on that provider's policies and your account settings. Do not submit sensitive information to AI requests if you do not want third-party model services to process it.

Imports and Local Permissions

When you import local books, libraries, or excerpt files, Common Reader reads the files or folders you select and stores necessary copies, indexes, book information, or import records locally. Some import operations may require system permission. The app accesses related files only to complete the import, reading, sync, or management operation you choose.

Website, Downloads, and Development Support

When you visit the website, the server and browser may produce routine access logs, such as IP address, visit time, browser information, and request path. This information is mainly used for site operation, security troubleshooting, and basic statistics. The website currently does not provide user accounts and does not collect your reading content.

If you purchase, download, or support development through a payment platform or app store, the related transaction is handled by that platform.

Crashes, Logs, and Feedback

During app operation, error information, sync state, import state, and other diagnostic information may be recorded locally or in system logs. If you actively send feedback by email, screenshots, logs, or other means, the content you send may include device information, system version, app version, error information, file names, book information, or other content you choose to include.

Data Sharing

Except for routine website access logs, feedback you choose to send, platform transactions, or data involved when you actively use third-party sync, AI, payment platforms, app stores, or similar features, the developer does not collect your reading content, book files, notes, or account-style personal profile data through developer-owned servers. Relevant third-party services process data under their own policies.
